Krishnagiri Tourist Places in Tamil Nadu India

Krishnagiri district has got prehistoric importance. This is one of the oldest place of Tamilnadu which reveals the facts of Indus valley and iron age period through various rock paintings and rock carvings.  The archaeological sources confirm the presence of habitats of mankind during Paleolithic, Neolithic and Mesolithic ages. The twelve forts namely Bara Mahal is situated here, one of those Krishnagiri forts was the first and foremost defensive place those days. Today! krishnagiri is bounded with two major river the cauvery and the south pennar gives so fertile for agrians. The nearby district are vellore and Tiruvennamalai district in the east, Karnataka state to the west, Andhra pradesh in the north and Dharmapuri District in the south, Initially this diatrict was carved from dharmapuri district as the 30th district of the state. It has an area of 5142 sq. km and stands as the town of kirshnagiri district headquarters. It is about 245kms from Chennai. Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP dam) was opened by the chief minister Kamaraj.

The heart of Krishnagiri, Hosur and Uthangarai were known as Eyilnadu, Murasu Nadu and ‘Kowoor Nadu’ respectively. 

Krishna giri region was called as Nigarili Chola Mandalam and Vidhugadhazhagi Nallu under Nulamba rule it was popular as Nulambadi according to historical sources.    Stones were erected for those who lost their lives in pursuit of adventure. There was tradition of erecting memorial stones were called Navagandam. This district was bifurcated from Dharmapuri district on 09-02-2004. Krishnagiri is also a historical place. It was a great place with huge boulders of stupendous size making the walls. It reveals it’s glorious past. An old fort called Syed Padsha hill fort is famous and attracts many tourists apart from the reservoir.

Treasure of Mango

Mango cultivation occupies first place in Krishnagiri district with 300.17sq.km for its cultivation.    It produces 3,00,000 tons annually out of mango production from this district 60,000 tons of Thothapuri and Alphonso breeds goto the pulp processing units.

Krishnagiri Dam (7km)

Krishnagiri Dam is situated at a distance of 7km away from the city. A major water reservoir to this district which provides adequate water throughout the year and an important tourist spot as such. It is in between Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri. Thousands of acres land is irrigated with the help of this dam.

Krishnagiri Places to Visit

Hosur

The name Hosur in Kanarese means ‘new town’. A large fort is situated in this town. It is ascribed to one ‘captain Hamilton’, two other prisoners were compelled by Tippu Sultan to assist in strengthening his forts. The fort has long out ramparts with a moat deep and wide and a glacis carefully levelled.  There is a temple called ‘Kottai Mariamman temple’ dedicated to Shakthi.   It is popular among the people of Hosur. Lord Chandra Suryeswarar temple a top is popular and the annual festival is attended by thousands of pilgrims from Karnataka.

Thally (25 km)

Thally is about 25km from Hosur. It is situated near the Karnataka state.  This is a hill station location on the western ghats where tourists are showered with natural scenario and the climate so chill enough. This spot is even known as the ‘little England” of India. You have a temple of venugopala swami to worship here. It is situated near the Karnataka state. This area is covered by a number of hills.  The climate is chill around the year.  It is also called as a little England of South India. The headquarters is Denkanikottai. The fort at Denkanikottai is built by Palayakarar in 1530AD.

Hanumantha Theertham

This place is named after a great belief of hanuman from the epic Ramayanam. This is situated on the bank of the pennaiyar and the place is linked with theerthamalai . The water here is treated to be holistic because it is believed that it has originated from the nature pot of hanuman.

Arulmigu maragathambigai Chandra choodeswara Temple

This is a famous temple located on a hillock amidstt hossur city. Next to it you have temples, Children Park and an observatory for picnic.

Thorapalli (10 km)

A Place to be remembered about the leader and legend – Rajaji who was born in this place. In his memory Throppalli has his memorial, which depicts his various walks of life through photo displays and his belongings.

Rayakottah (30 km)

Rayakottah is a hill fort. It is were Birtish troops stationed till 1861. It is a hill fort, which was used as a strategy-planning place for British thore days while conquouring south India. This is a protected monument even today. It is situated at a distance of 30km from Hosur marks the border of the palghat plateau.

Rajaji Memorial

Thorapalli is in memory of the great leader Rajaji. The Tamil Nadu Government has converted the house in Thorapalli where Rajaji was born, as a memorial. It is about 10km from Hosur near Onnalvadi.
